Sealand
Renovation Update 3
We have just had a very
busy month of work in Sealand. All
glazing is now completed. Our replacement
generator is about to be shipped and all the fire debris has been
removed.
The hardest part of
this task was to remove the destroyed generators from the burnt out remains
of the generator shed and dispose of them.
Before this could be
done all oil and fuel contaminants had to be removed. This involved a month of painful and dirty
work, washing out the insides of the engines and capturing the contaminants in
specially created containers.
Once this was completed
a team of brave and hardy engineers and volunteers manually dragged 1.3
tonnes of generator from one end of Sealand to the other, around 2 very tight
corners, over the 2 foot deck rail to position it under Sealands main lift
winch.
Then things became difficult!
The generator, then
had to be carefully lowered from the platform.
A special thank you goes out to all
our fearless crew!
To mark this occasion
we have had a commemorative T-Shirt made, which will be on sale soon. All proceeds will be going to the Sealand
renovation fund and the first 50 purchasers will be entered into a draw to
spend the weekend in Sealand with members of our engineering team.
Keep your eyes open for
further updates.
